Students Drowning in Debt
Graduate
students carry increasingly high credit card balances, and are less likely to
pay their bills in full compared to other consumers, according to a recent study
by Nellie Mae.*
Other findings:
Ninety-six percent (96%) of graduate students carry
an average of six credit cards.
The average credit card debt among graduate
students who carry cards is $7,831 per student, a significant increase of
fifty-nine percent (59%) compared to 1998's average debt of
$4,925.
Graduate business
students accumulate the most credit card debt, with an average balance of
$11,585.
These
figures don't include student loan debt, which can be another significant burden
for students.
